American Girl
American Girl
In my new “American Girl” series I attempt to demonstrate and examine the absurdity of what our mainstream culture finds acceptable and what it regards as profane. Exploring how easily it is manipulated, as a result of it’s prudery, fear and deep seated puritanical nature, by propaganda and strategically planned political smokescreens and diversions. I ask why are we outraged and fascinated by Lewinsky Clinton-like affairs, and not angered by the violence and fear our children are being fed by the media? Why do episodes such as Janet Jackson’s breast bearing evoke more reaction and attention, than do the innocent casualties of war inspired by greed and lust for power? Why do we fund and support the sadistic and perverse torture that war inspires? Why do we not find this outrageous and unacceptable? How ironic or how obvious? Are we blind, brainwashed, apathetic, afraid… a nation of cowards, or are we a simply a nation that just doesn’t care about the rest of humanity, the world and it’s future and one that only cares about it’s well being right here right now? ~ Lena Viddo 2004
